what to expect

OHBC intentionally refuses to be labeled or placed into any one particular category of "church." We are traditional in our focus on the historic elements of the gathering of the saints, yet we're contemporary in style. We tend to dress casually and we're not afraid to laugh in church, yet we take Sundays very seriously. We read Scripture corporately and we pray together, focusing on praise, confession, thanksgiving, and petition. There will be times set aside for quiet, personal reflection as well.

In terms of music, we enjoy singing both modern praise songs and classic hymns of the faith. The style is less important than the lyrics - we want to make sure that we're singing sound theology and focusing our attention on the Lord! Sometimes we have a full band, at other times we'll keep it simple with just a single guitar or keyboard.

Most of all, it's important to know that our focus on Sunday is deepening the knowledge and faith of the believer. We place a strong emphasis on expository preaching - the type of teaching that convicts the heart and leads to life transformation.
